MAYWEATHER VS. MCGREGOR LAST CALL FOR PRIVATE JETS!!!

8/25/2017
1:00 AM PDT

Mayweather/McGregor celeb fans are gonna be screwed out of prime Strip parking if they swoop in last minute … because Vegas doesn’t want the private jet s**t show that went down for Mayweather’s last fight of the century.

You’ll recall the famous pics of McCarran International Airport tarmacs choked with PJs in 2015 for Mayweather/Pacquiao. That traffic jam taught ’em a lesson. Airport sources tell TMZ, McCarran’s implemented a reservation system.

The bad news for latecomers … the lot’s just about full. We’re told McCarran is capping the number of birds allowed to park this weekend. Last minute arrivals will still be allowed to land, but will have to bolt after dropping off celebs.

That means anyone looking to flee at a moment’s notice will be screwed. Ya can’t call ’em to fuel up the jet, if the jet ain’t even there. There is a plan B … reserve parking at one of 2 nearby municipal airports.

Jerry Jones says it’s ‘pretty definitive’ that the Raiders will move to Las Vegas

There’s a bit of stop-and-go when it comes to the Las Vegas Raiders. Lots of progress is made but then an obstacle like a really rich billionaire or a slowed-down relocation vote pops up.

If you want to read the tea leaves on how a possible relocation to Vegas will go down, there is one owner who might be smart to listen to, and that’s Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. He’s one of the most powerful owners in the league, and if you believe the stories of back-room dealings, he helped shepherd the Rams to Los Angeles.

And Jones, while speaking on CBS Sports Radio affiliate 105.3 the Fan in Dallas Tuesday morning, says he sees the Raiders to Vegas as almost a sure thing. He called it “pretty definitive” and said it could be “as strong” as the Los Angeles situation.

“Really if you look at the history of teams moving, this is pretty definitive. There’s a pretty bright line right there. They’ve provided for a team, the most funding that’s ever been funded from third parties,” Jones said. “So that’s about as strong, L.A. never really had that powerful of influence, I’ll put it that way. Which is over $700 million of initial contribution from the state of Nevada and the city of Las Vegas. That’s pretty strong. Vegas has a lot going for it. I think it’s going to really have, a real, if you will, strong case to get an NFL football team. I know that Oakland, certainly, was approved to move earlier this year.

“And you put all of that together and that’s pretty confluence of things coming together. I call that the crosshair theory when things get in the crosshair, you better recognize it most of the time.”

Now, Jones isn’t the end-all, be-all of decisions when it comes to moving a franchise. The NFL owners still have to vote on the Raiders going to Vegas, with the Raiders needing 24 votes to make the move.

Roger Goodell would prefer to keep an NFL team in the Bay Area TV market, however, and it’s entirely possible the Raiders don’t get to hold a relocation vote in January. That would make things interesting if the Chargers pass on their opportunity to move to Los Angeles, as the Raiders would get an option to join the Rams at that point.

Biggest bar at Caesars Palace Las Vegas will open in time for Halloween

Caesars Palace, the Las Vegas resort that turns 50 this year, will open its newest hangout, the Alto Bar, on Friday evening. You can snag a private booth and watch TV while sipping classic cocktails or draft beers.

Alto takes over the former Seahorse Lounge (it’s near the Omnia nightclub and the Race and Sports Book) to become the landmark resort’s biggest bar.

It promises to serve up “premium versions of classic cocktails,” a news release about the Alto says.

Drinks on opening weekend cost $8 for Corona or Modelo and $35 for buckets of five Corona, Modelo or Red Bull. Cocktails made with El Jimador tequila will set you back $10 to $12 each.

You can turn out for a Halloween/Day of the Dead costume party at 11 p.m. Saturday and drop by to decorate sugar skulls from 8 to 10 p.m. Halloween night (Monday).

Seat selection process for Las Vegas NHL season ticket-holders starts Monday

Owner Bill Foley has been spending millions since he officially got his NHL expansion team for Las Vegas on June 22.

Monday, he finally starts to get some of those dollars back when the team launches its long-awaited seating phase for its 16,000 season ticket-holders.

For the next few weeks, those who put down deposits may go online, select seats in T-Mobile Arena and begin to pay off their bill. All buyers will have to put down 20 percent, with the balance spread interest-free over the next nine months. Season subscribers will have the option to pay in full.

“We want to make it as fair as possible for everyone,” said Todd Pollock, the team’s vice president for ticketing and suites. “We wanted to devise a system that was easy for the user and it had to be done in such a way that they could understand it.”

Fans have been mailed a brochure and video on the process. Each season ticket-holder will be assigned an access code and a specific time to select seats. Those with the longest commitment for the most expensive seats get to select first. Those who chose the least expensive option for the shortest time period (one year) will pick last.

“There’s always the challenge of making everyone happy,” Pollock said. “We’ve said all along that the people who committed the longest went to the front of the line.”

Many fans scouted seating locations at the team’s open house this summer.

Having also attended the open house, this reporter test-drove the seat selection system Friday. Trying to keep things as realistic as possible (that is, not selecting center-ice seats six rows from the glass), I initially opted for the upper bowl behind the net in Section 206, Row Q, at $25 per seat per game. But after talking myself into believing the RJ will give me a raise, I decided on Loge seating behind the goal. Those seats are $75 per seat per game.

I had 10 minutes to make my decision. I logged onto the system, and it asked me where I wanted to sit. A 3-dimensional virtual model of T-Mobile Arena popped up and I clicked on Section 120, directly behind the goal. At first, I looked at Row P, then Row B, which was more expensive ($90). So I moved up to Row J, the lowest row in my price range.

I clicked on seats 1 and 2, but then noticed a railing obstructing my view. I canceled my order and moved over one section to 119. I stayed in Row J, looked at the image and it gave me a clear view of the entire ice.

In a matter of seconds, I had checked out, the owner of seats 8 and 9 in Section 119, Row J. I was also out $6,600 plus a $15 handling fee. The entire process had taken less than four minutes.

Sober Crowds and 2-for-1 Specials: The Thriving Daytime Acts of Vegas

daytime_acts_las_vegas

Sin City visitors show increasing interest in shows before sunset, where the tickets are cheaper and the gags involve plate spinning and guinea pigs; ‘this is not Cirque’

LAS VEGAS—Let Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Penn & Teller and the other headliners reign over this city when the sun goes down.

The daylight hours belong to people like Mac King, a magician whose act features a dime-store yellow poncho he dubs the “cloak of invisibility” and an assistant who dons a bear suit. Or Jeff Civillico, a juggler whose skill set includes balancing a ladder on his chin.

Or Pete Vallee—aka “Big Elvis”—a 500-pound-plus singer with a velvety baritone who indeed may be the world’s biggest Elvis impersonator. He croons his way through “Viva Las Vegas” during a free lounge show that wraps up at 6 p.m.

Big Elvis
Big Elvis

Before his morning commute to Harrah’s Las Vegas, Mr. King gets up early and drives his teenage daughter to school. Before Ms. Dion has chirped a single note, he has eaten dinner with his family and maybe fit in a game of croquet in the backyard.

“I’m usually asleep by 10,” he says.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the surprisingly mundane lifestyles of Las Vegas’s daytime entertainers, who make a much more “reasonable” living performing in front of smaller audiences, often for less than $50 a ticket (and way less if there’s a 2-for-1 discount).

To succeed in this world, it helps to have a gimmick—preferably something that appeals to people who haven’t started drinking yet. It also helps to have a healthy sense of humility.

“I’m really the least ambitious person I know,” says Mr. King, 56 years old, who has played afternoons in Vegas for close to two decades, making him the unofficial dean of the daytime set.

Mr. King’s antics include rope tricks and a bit involving an especially well-behaved guinea pig. Carl Anderson, a retiree from Toronto, has seen Mr. King’s show at least a half-dozen times in the course of visits to Vegas. “It’s just a good, fun afternoon,” he says.

Mandarin Oriental residents form exotic car club

Luxury communities in Southern Nevada offer a lot of things — golf, country clubs and family outings and activities. The Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas at CityCenter stands out with its exotic car club.

The cars range from Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces and restored classic vehicles, some redesigned with a modern twist, “that are just as valuable as a new Lamborghini,” according to the group’s organizer, resident Frank Napoli.

Any resident or their guests can participate in periodic activities put on by the community’s car club, Mandarin Auto Club; some of which include a monthly coffee meet-up and a cruise to different places.

Napoli, who professes a love of fast cars, moved into the building this spring and noticed several beautiful, high-end cars in the valet area.

“A lot of them were sitting under covers, covered in dust,” he recalled. “They weren’t being driven. So I thought, clearly there’s a lot of car enthusiasts here, and I want to meet my neighbors, so we need to get these cars out and have a good time. So I thought up Cars and Coffee, and the Mandarin supported that. So did the residents. We’re on our third event. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.”

In August, club members met at a restaurant owned by of one of the residents, the Eldorado Cantina.

In September, members gathered on a Sunday afternoon at the Chicago Motor Cars Las Vegas’ showroom that keeps an inventory of expensive, rare autos, which are mainly traded online, and occasionally loaned out for film and video shoots.

Napoli is a local luxury Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services. He says he’s “always been a car guy,” who had coveted his New York cousin’s Chevy Camaro Z28 from a young age. “Since I was a little kid, I was infatuated and wanted to have one, but they’re hard to find and I’m very picky. I finally found one this year, and had it restored.”

He can be seen cruising in his Z28 up the Strip on weekends.

New path to stardom: promoting Las Vegas slot machines

Trend alert: Both Vanna White and “Seinfeld’s” “Soup Nazi” actor made celebrity appearances for Vegas slot machines on Tuesday.

At the Global Gaming Expo, Mayor Carolyn Goodman presented a key to the city to White on the 20th anniversary of the ubiquitous “Wheel of Fortune” slots, which have taken in $3 billion and paid out 1,000 millionaire jackpots, says slot maker IGT.

Meanwhile, actor Larry “Soup Nazi” Thomas did the “ta-da” reveal for new “Seinfeld” slots at the Scientific Games booth in the Global Gaming Expo.

For years, the Strip has launched slot machines with slight celebrity appearances, but this marketing plan seems to be ramping up lately.

“Party girl”/actress Tara Reid helped get press for TMZ’s interactive slots at the Hard Rock Hotel on Aug. 29.

If stars do red carpets at nightclubs and restaurant events, why couldn’t the next place red carpets roll out regularly be casino floor slot machines?

Las Vegas: 6 beer-worthy stops to celebrate Oktoberfest (including Shacktoberfest!)

vegas_sign-640x356

Jay Jones

Las Vegas channels its inner Munich this week with a string of Oktoberfest events. Whether you crave German beer or food (or both), Vegas embraces the Bavarian harvest celebration more than ever.

First off, Germany’s Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig) hosted the first Oktoberfest in Munich in 1810. It’s now a festival that draws 6 million visitors to the Bavarian city each fall.

1. That history and tradition are well represented at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas at 4510 Paradise Road, a re-creaton of the legendary Munich beer hall. There will be partying through Oct. 31. On upcoming Fridays and Saturdays, Vegas celebrities will drive a metal spigot into a wooden barrel to tap kegs of beer. Impersonator Rich Little does the honors on Friday followed by BMX pro Ricardo Laguna on Saturday.

2. Consider Beerhaus at the recently launched gathering spot the Park as a good place to begin beer-hopping. Friday through Sunday the bar will be filling commemorative half-liter and full-liter steins with seasonal beers from breweries, including Germany’s Ayinger, Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten. The beers make for perfect pairings for homemade bratwurst, German potato salad and fried apples with caramel dip.

3. Just a short stroll up the promenade, Shake Shack at New York-New York hotel-casino will be serving its Shacktoberfest beer through Sunday. Also, adults and kids can enjoy special Oktoberfest concoctions: the apfelstrudel and Black Forest shakes.
